November Shared Plate

Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Guest at Your Table program

This month UUFSCC will share our Sunday collection with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UU Service Committee) and their annual Guest at Your Table program. The UU Service Committee is our nonprofit, nonsectarian organization advancing human rights together with an international community of grassroots partners and advocates. For 50 years, the UU Service Committee has hosted a multi-generational, education and fundraising program called Guest at Your Table.

This year, we are celebrating with the theme “Expanding the Welcome Table.” We use the metaphor of a global table where we come together to learn each other’s stories and share our hopes for a future in which all may thrive. This month we will share stories from 4 of our partners. This week, hear about Jo-Jikum, a program of young climate activists in the Marshall Islands helping their communities heal from the destructive legacy of nuclear testing by the United States while envisioning a sustainable future for their people, despite the challenges of climate change. Their programs focus on leadership development, environmental awareness, arts, media, and project management. Learn more about this program by watching a 5-½ minute video here.

Watch your Current Happenings this month for information and videos on other UU Service Committee partners each week.

In addition to our shared plate, you can invite a "virtual" partner into your home by placing a Guest At Your Table box at your dinner table.  Engage in family discussion about the work of our partners and the UU Service Committee and set aside money at mealtimes. Bring or send these donations to UUFSCC by Nov 24. UUFSCC friend Teri Wiss will match donations made to the UU Service Committee during this Guest At Your Table collection, making your donation go even further! A larger donation, $150 or more, would qualify for yet another financial match! Talk to Teri or Chuck Torrey for details. Learn more about the UU Service Committee and our partners here.
