Caring for one another is a core value and spiritual practice for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

“Companioning one another spiritually is one of the most important ministries of a faith community. It’s often referred to as ‘Pastoral Care’” which might imply that the Pastor should do all of the care. But ministry in congregations is meant to be shared between ordained and lay leaders.” (UUA.org)

Our Pastoral Care Associates provide short-term aid and comfort to Members and Friends of the Fellowship who are experiencing illness, temporary disability, and personal loss. They assist the minister in providing a confidential, caring presence to congregants undergoing difficult and stressful life challenges.  Jan Miracle and Barbara Badger are the Fellowship’s Pastoral Care Associates. Each of the Associates brings valuable and applicable life experiences to this role. In addition, all have participated in a special orientation on how to provide one-one confidential pastoral care, and Jan has attended a half-day grief support seminar as well.

Reasons for a Pastoral Care visit might include major life transitions like the death of a loved one, divorce, job or home loss, financial strain, chronic or terminal illness, pandemic isolation- or anytime someone needs a soul friend who can listen, ask meaningful questions, and care for their spirit in a unique and gentle way.
