Sorrow, and the Other Deepest Thing

In a sermon entitled “Sorrow, and the Other Deepest Thing,” guest speaker Bill Heavlin of the UU Coastside Community ponders the Pandemic-induced sorrows experienced within many UU congregations. Interweaving psychology, poetry, and personal stories, Bill’s exploration uncovers 3½ sources of new hope.

Bill Heavlin recently retired after a working career of 54-years, one of which began at age 13 as a door-to-door Fuller Brush salesman and concluded in Silicon Valley as a data scientist. He has one son, actively working and established in Minneapolis, and one dog, actively advancing her retirement status.

With his wife Noreen, Bill is one of the principal lay leaders of the Unitarian Universalist Coastside Community, centered around Half Moon Bay. With Esther Wallace, he has recently concluded a sermon-writing class for lay people called “Shared Pulpit.”
