Why Cultivate Compassion?

From a Buddhist perspective, Karuna is a Sanskrit word translated into English as compassion. It goes beyond a sympathetic feeling. It’s a motivating principle, a heartfelt wish to end suffering, not just for oneself, but for all beings. Ultimately, it is a fundamental quality of mind existent within all beings that is cultivated on the Buddhist path to an awakened mind. It’s a universal quality that can be developed by anyone to cultivate empathy and connection with others. Seems like there is no better time than now to cultivate such an attitude.
