It goes beyond a sympathetic feeling. It\u2019s a motivating principle, a heartfelt wish to end suffering, not just for oneself, but for all beings. Ultimately, it is a fundamental quality of mind existent within all beings that is cultivated on the Buddhist path to an awakened mind. It\u2019s a universal quality that can be developed by anyone to cultivate empathy and connection with others.
